Fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger are loving the docuseries on his life, which is both trending and in the Top Ten of the OTT platform it is streaming on. The series follows his life from his early days of bodybuilding to the time he joined Hollywood and later became the governor of California. The opening shot takes us to his first international win as a bodybuilder at 22 years of age and then proceeds to give us glimpses of his very competitive childhood in the scenic Austrian countryside.
Netizens are loving it and his fans have accorded it a wholesome 8.2/10 on IMDb.
The critics’ rating on rottentomatoes stands at a healthy 72 per cent, while fans have gone overboard and awarded it 97 per cent.
Here’s a tweet from Cinema Tweets on Twitter: “There are few people on Earth as fascinating as Arnold Schwarzenegger; to see Arnold's life through his own perspective will leave you inspired, motivated, and thinking about what matters to you in life.” He describes the docuseries as “heavy, honest, and authentic”.
Another user MrBigBags was equally impressed and tweeted, “What a story. He's one of those people who knew EXACTLY what they wanted, worked their ass off, and achieved it all. It's very inspiring.”
Michael Hogan of UK’s Daily Telegraph describes it as an “entertaining yarn but too stage-managed and soft-soaped to be a truly objective profile”. Despite that, he awards it a 3/5. Another view from UK is from Time’s Carol Midgley who says that Schwarzenegger has an action comedy series, Fubar also streaming currently, but it never “put that in jeopardy”. Instead, she describes the effect as “cosy”.
Another critic mentions that Arnold has a “charmed life”, and Richard Roeper of Chicago Sun-Times adds in response to the docu-series, “He came, he saw, he conquered, and even now, at 75, he’s not about to slow down”.
A complaint from Nick Schager of The Daily Beast is that the series “only skims the surface”. Begin with the documentary anyway, and if you need to know more about Arnold, dig deeper into the net. There is enough there to keep you well-informed about him, including details of the controversies in his personal life.
